The BYU Women's Chorus has released a moving new music video for the beloved hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Released on Pioneer Day (a Latter-day Saint holiday commemorating the settling of Utah), it features a message of enduring faith, hope, and trust in Jesus Christ.

The video premiered on July 24, 2026. The song comes from the choir's latest full-length album, My Soul's Delight: A Selection of Sacred Music (available to stream here).

Originally penned by Joseph Scriven near Port Hope, Ontario, in 1855, the text of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" has offered comfort and encouragement to generations seeking peace through faith in Christ. Originally set to music by Charles C. Converse and arranged for this album by Brian Pappal, the timeless hymn reminds listeners of the solace and strength found in turning to the Savior during life's trials.

The BYU Women's Chorus performed this new arrangement at the historic American Fork 3rd Ward Meetinghouse, now a wedding venue known as Northampton House. The historic setting complements the hymn's themes of faith, perseverance, and spiritual refuge, creating a visually rich tribute that reflects the legacy of early Utahns who trusted God through uncertainty.

Made up of more than 180 singers, the BYU Women's Chorus is one of four premier choral ensembles at Brigham Young University. Under the direction of Dr. Sonja Poulter, the ensemble is recognized both nationally and internationally for its expressive artistry, refined vocal technique, and inspiring performances. Through a diverse repertoire of sacred and secular music, the choir celebrates the unique qualities of the female voice while inviting audiences to experience peace, faith, and hope through music.
